You can connect TerraTrue to your Slack workspace to create launches, send comments, and receive notifications.

To get started, simply head to the Slack integration org setting and enable the “Slack Integration” toggle. That’s it!

For the integration to function, it must be approved by a user in your Slack workspace with the “App Manager” permission. If you’re unable to turn on the integration, reach out to your App Manager.

Who can post comments via Slack?

In order to sync comments, Slack requires us to use public channels. This means that any user in your Slack workspace — even those without TerraTrue accounts — can post a comment to TerraTrue by sending a message in a channel linked to a launch. We’ll help you identify users without TerraTrue accounts by showing other information, like their Slack username and email address. If no other information is available, we’ll display “Unknown Slack User.”

Why do Slack comments look different than other comments?

Whenever possible, we try to associate Slack and TerraTrue accounts by matching email addresses. When the Slack user does not have a TerraTrue account, we can’t make a match and aren’t able to display a TerraTrue username. To help identify who sent the comment, we show their Slack username and email address.

How do I delete comments that are sent using the Slack integration?

For most users, comments sent via Slack must be deleted in Slack. If the comment is deleted within two weeks of posting, it will automatically be deleted from TerraTrue too. After two weeks, only TerraTrue admins can remove these comments. Comments can be edited at any time by the original author.

Admins can delete any TerraTrue comments, but this will only remove the comment from within TerraTrue. Only the original commenter can remove messages within Slack.

How does my Slack retention policy affect comments on TerraTrue?

In most cases, Slack comments are stored just like other comments on TerraTrue: For the lifetime of your org’s account, unless they’re deleted by their author or an admin. However, if your Slack workspace has a retention period of two weeks or less, comments posted via Slack will be automatically deleted from TerraTrue in line with your Slack retention policy. After two weeks of posting, deletion of comments from Slack are ignored to protect against such loss.

How do I create a launch using Slack?

If you have a TerraTrue account with permissions to create launches, simply type “/newlaunch” in a public channel on Slack to create a launch. A new window will pop up where you can enter a launch title, description, and due date. When you’re done, click the “Create Launch” button. It’s that simple!

How do I get notifications of org-wide events in Slack?

You can display notifications of org-wide TerraTrue events, like launch creation and changes to privacy settings, in public Slack channels. To do so, type “/orgsub” in the channel you’d like to display the notifications and then select the notifications you’d like to receive. If you want to change your notifications, just use the “/orgsub” command to modify your choices.

You can unsubscribe from org-wide events at any time by typing “/orgunsub” in the channel.

How do I add launch notifications to a channel from within Slack?

To subscribe to notifications about launch-specific events, enter the channel you’d like to display the notifications type “/launchsub ” followed by the launch number. For example, if you’d like to receive notifications about launch 178, type “/launchsub 178” in the channel. You’ll then be asked to confirm the types of notifications you want to receive.

You can modify these notifications at any time by using the “/launchsub” command again. You can also unsubscribe by typing “/launchunsub “ followed by the launch number.
